A Soldier's Tale: Meeting the Designer

I met with Rosalie Tyack, the designer for A Soldier's Tale and discussed with her and Richard McCabe how we would make this set and what we would build it out of. The false pros is going to be 18mm ply backed with 3 x 1 PSE timber "on edge" with bracing approximately 1200mm, which is roughly a third of the height of the pros for support.

The stage is Steeldeck at 200mm high, so will need little scaffolding legs to support it. If we used packing the Steeldeck might bounce of it if there is too much action happening on stage.

Rosalie's design encorporates pallets which we will make out of recyled 6 x 1 from In Extremis as we used a lot in the construction. And the three dimensional artwork on the proscenium arch will be made from recycled timber and found corrugated iron. There is also some texture that we will create using polyblock.

I have decided that I want to take on a role with more responsibility and do the ordering of timber and building materials, the schedule of the build and again, building the set. I feel that the more I act as a Project Manager, the better I will be when I come to Manage The Road.
